Sunday 14 December from 5pm to 7:30pm
Step into our story. Feel our culture. Experience the power!
Brolga Yugal Yulu-gi is a vibrant and inspiring cultural showcase presented by the talented young people of Brolga Dance Academy. This performance celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through a dynamic fusion of dance, song, and storytelling, highlighting the rich traditions, histories, and contemporary expressions of First Nations communities.
The evening begins with a Welcome to Country by Jacqueline Jarrett and a Smoking Ceremony led by Dean Kelly, honouring Country and culture and setting the stage for a powerful and immersive experience.
Like the heartbeat of Mother Earth, each movement, note, and story resonates with rhythm, life, and connection, grounding the performance in culture and Country. Audiences will be captivated by powerful performances including Mui Mui Bumer Gedlam, Midnight Dreaming, and more, each bringing unique stories and energy to the stage.
Leading us through this unforgettable evening are our dynamic emcees, Jarin Ingram Baigent and Sean Choolburra, who celebrate the voices and stories of our young people, guiding the audience on a journey of culture, creativity, and inspiration.
Every element of Brolga Yugal Yulu-gi has been crafted to engage, inspire, and educate, providing a platform for young performers to showcase their skills, confidence, and pride. This event is more than a performance — it is a cultural journey, inviting the audience to feel, connect, and celebrate alongside our performers, in rhythm with the heartbeat of culture and Country.
Choreographers for the showcase include Amy Johnson, Majeda Beatty, Henrietta Baird, and Jodie Welsh, with Jodie Welsh, the artistic director, guiding the creative vision and cohesion of the performance.
Join us for an unforgettable evening that honours tradition, nurtures creativity, and uplifts the voices of the next generation of First Nations artists.
