Africa Film Fest Australia

When

Thursdays, 6pm to 11pm Fridays, 2pm to 8pm Saturdays, 10am to 10pm Sundays, 11:30am to 6:30pm Thursday 3 September to Sunday 6 September

This September, Sydney won’t just watch African stories, it will feel them.

Africa Film Fest Australia (3–6 Sept) is a cultural pulse beating in the heart of the city. Across the Sydney Opera House and Event Cinemas, Parramatta, audiences will journey from the sun-soaked coast of Mombasa to the streets of Lagos, the archives of independence-era Ghana to the studios of Harlem, and the concert halls of Cairo to a Black woman’s quiet search for liberation across the Caribbean.

  • 9 feature films.

  • 7 Australian premieres.

  • Unmissable short films.

  • The Art of Storytelling — an afternoon with leading writers and filmmakers on the craft, and how new voices break in.

These are stories told by Africa’s boldest voices; tales that will challenge what you think you know, immerse you in worlds you’ve never seen, and remind you of the threads that connect us all. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll leave seeing the world differently.

From Nigeria to Kenya, Ghana to South Africa, Egypt to Burkina Faso and beyond, this is cinema that refuses to sit quietly. It is connection. It is celebration. It is community.

Some of the highlights include The Eyes of Ghana, executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, and Black Is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story, executive produced by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.

Seats are limited, so if you've ever wanted to witness the beauty, complexity, and power of Africa on screen, this is your moment.
